We befriended this Bahian woman and ate Acaraje from her stall on most nights. Acaraje is a Bahian fritter made of brown beans fried in dende oil (taste similar to that of a South Indian vada). It is sliced and served with a filling of salad or shrimp.

We met Mercedes (originally from Cuba) who worked at a Travel Agency near our Pousada. She enjoyed our pictures of Cuba and engaged us in a conversation on her people and culture.

We feel a sense of beauty in the melancholic quality of this façade gutted from within and propped up.

Is an obsession with caos something perverse? it there in your photographs beautification of filth of missery and ultimately of ugliness? You make it look like there is no such thing as ugly. Keep making it all beautiful.
