We found a hugs poster of "hawaianas"...the popular Brazilian footwear..

The level difference between the streets Rua do Passo (above) and Ladeira do Carmo bridged by stepped street “Escadas do Carmo”, sets up a grand entrance for the church “Igreja do Santissimo Sacramento do Passo”. These steps are packed for Samba, Forro or Axe performances on Tuesday nights. One of the five hot spots for music in the Pelourinho (the historic district) as it comes alive to the beat of drums.

Walking towards one of the central plazas “Largo do Pelourinho”, set amidst brightly colored Renaissance and Baroque architecture and cobbled streets.

The steep terrain of the Pelourinho slows your pace wherein you take in each of its colorful beauties. This plaza which during the day has a flood of tourists courted by a handful of vendors takes on a different spirit at night with drums of different shapes and sounds, singing, the sweet spirit of Caipirinha and Acaraje stalls for the gastronomes.

Drums for sale! djembe, tumbadore, shekere, maraca, berimbau, amongst others.
